I have a Model 31-1 38 special Serial number J12208 I cannot find any information on this gun at all chambered in 38. Does anybody have any information they could share with me

Model 31 would be a Regulation Police in .32 S&W. From the serial number, I would guess you have a J frame, possibly a model 37 and you have mis-read the 7 as a 1. In that case it was shipped in 1969-1970

Definitely stamped 31–1 and a steel frame.

Post some images so we can see this anomaly. If it is a S&W Model 31, it will be chambered for the 32 S&W Long cartridge. If it is chambered for any other cartridge, it is either a gunsmith special (frankensmith) or some other maker.

I'd say it was stamped wrong. The model 31 is a 32 caliber. You appear to have a J frame 38 special

Looks like they got an order for a 38 S&W Special and the worker grabbed a frame for the 32 S&W Long. It happens. Sometimes they cross it out, sometimes not.

The only way to know for sure is to pay $100.00 for a letter. Not worth it to me.
