I’m a big fan of SW. it appears to some (and me) that the pride of many collections is/are the pre-27 or the 27. Assuming I wanted a premier pistol for my collection, what should I be looking for in the Model 27 line?
It will have to be listed as a 27 - 1 because that's a very specific model. They only made them for about a year so very few were made. For even more rarity, try to get a nickel one.
If you are buying to collect then buy the highest quality complete package you can find. There are many sub groups in the N Frame .357 class. Registered Magnum, Non registered magnum, Post war, Pre Model 27, and then the different engineering changes of the model marked guns. I'm sure that I've left a few out. If you have investment in mind then only the top one or two percent are worth buying. If you want to enjoy your purchase by using it then a compromise in condition or accessories will save you a lot of money. It's all in what puts a smile on your face. I really like to shoot my guns. BTW all three are pre model marked.
It appears you know what you are taking about. Lol. What is your top purchase, if you could? While you have many you shoot what would be your #1 purchase as an investment? Not to shoot but to keep and hand down?
It all depends on your wallet. If you are talking non model marked and Model 27s then a 3 1/2" barreled model in either nickel or blue in the original box with tools and papers would be a great way to go. Pre war is a whole other ball game and would be a serious investment.
The M-27 with the tapered 3 1/2" barrel, and glossy nickel finish (leatherhead's)........would my top choice, if I was willing to pay the price. Not sure what it's worth......probably a couple thousand. I like K-frames.......I have 3 of them, the best being a M-66-1 2 1/2". Bob
Welcome to the forum! Good luck with your search for a model 27, hopefully one you can shoot and enjoy.
