New to this but hope you can help. I just got a Model 10 - 5, Serial #D451346. Does anyone know when it was made? Also, do you think +P ammo would be OK for this pistol?

Good to go with +P, just keeping asking yourself why do I want to use it.

One of my 10-5's is D3661xx. It shipped 5/71.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (SCSW) says your serial number was in 1972-73.

Thanks. Don't really want to use +P, just happen to have two boxes which I hate to waist. Beautiful Pistol.

Welcome to the forum, Tim.

Just keep the +P for self defense use, instead of shooting it up at targets (except for training to learn recoil management).

Standard velocity ammo is easier to shoot, less expensive and will take less of a toll on the gun's action.

It wont hurt the gun to fire the rounds you have on hand. Actually the Remington 100rd packs of 125gr or 130gr (cant remember which) 38 specials that Walmart used to sell are marked Plus P, but are still fairly mild compared to other Plus P offerings
