Just joined the forum, have many guns in my collection, but this one may have some historical value. The SW 38 spl CTG has a 5" barrel and the owners name etched into frame. I was told he was a police officer from ILL. or OH. Serial number is 614116, which matched cylinder, and model number on frame is 30331.
Any help with date of manufacture would help me validate the history of this SW 38. thank you
That gun was made before S&W used a model number system. The number you cited as the model number is actually an assembly number, used to keep fitted parts together through the finishing process. The gun would be a model of 1905, or a 38 M&P, (same thing)
