I recently recieved my dads m&p target 38spl. One of the forum guys told me he thought it to be a 1905 3rd change from '09 to '15. Serial #'s on butt and cylinder are the same but different on the barrel. If the barrel had been changed would there not be some indication from the 'smith who did the work? Any ideas? thanks

Depends on who did the work. The factory would mark it on the frame , under the grips, with a diamond or star and a date, depending on what was done. If the numbers are not very far off, it might have left the factory that way. How well does the bluing match?

Sorry for the delay in response -bluing appears to match fairly well (cant post pic just yet) but i thought it odd that barrel #1457xx is lower than butt and cylinder 1509xx. would that mean that if barrel was replaced it was an older barrel? thanks
