Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! That is a 3.5", .38 Safety Hammerless, 4th Model, (AKA the New Departure) from around 1907. It is chambered for .38 S&W, not .38 Special. It is not an antique, the BATF cutoff for which is 1898. S&W made a grunch of these models and they are not very valuable unless they are pristine with a factory box or were owned by John Wayne. Yours has not led a sheltered life and should be a good shooter. The broken grip panel can be repaired with clear epoxy and some carbon black for matching color. Alternately, hard rubber grips can often be found on eBay or gunbroker. Plastic replica grips are available from N.C. Ordnance Inc - Powered by Network Solutions..
