Found this at the LGS today...wondering what it's worth..if it's a decent deal I'll grab it.Bore is sharp and clean, cylinder locks up tight,trigger pull is beautiful,timing is perfect. Dealer says it came from an estate and was stored incorrectly.No box,papers or tools etc. Just a shooter.

In my mind, the K22 is perhaps the best 22 revolver ever made. Looks like a circa 1953 gun, if I eyeballed the serial number on the tag correctly. $400 would be a great price. $350 even better. But I would think he will want more.
I picked up a K 22 last year that dates from about 1955, in similar condition, but still a great shooter. Dealer at the gun show had it tagged $475 but I traded another S& for it that I was into for $300. It's hard to find any K22 for less than $400 these days and I've seen some pretty sorry looking specimens still sell for over $300 at auctions. Hopefully you can play up the finish defects to bargain him down some. Good luck!

Out here it would be a $400-450 revolver in that condition. To get it refinished correctly it'll cost you north of $150 and probably with a fair amount of shipping cost as well. And refinishing it will ruin the value, so unless you keep the gun practically forever, it'll probably not regain the value of the restoration. It was certainly "improperly stored" without any doubt. Luckily the looks won't affect the accuracy. It'll be a good shooter, but you'll need to either fork over some serious change to get it pretty again, or you'll learn to live with it in that condition. For the right price I'd pick it up and not worry about the condition. Just keep it oiled and be happy.

Styrofoam is bad stuff. I found out the hard way with a farm toy collection.

this one was worse ,and my gunsmith treated it better.

this one is 40 some years newer.

It came from a local friend of the owner..whose father collected for years. His son kept quite a few, but his mother needs money for bills and such..so he is liquidating some of them for him. I bought a Browning Buckmark from his group of guns already.

That looks like it would be a very nice shooter grade K-22. As noted by others that revolver is very well known for an excellent trigger and it should be a lot of fun.

I agree with everyone. I'd buy it while complaining about the visible damage.

I'd then use some 0000 (or 000) steel wool to clean off the two spots. I'd then order some 44/40 Gun Blue ($6). I'd dab on the blue with a Q-tip in several coats (a wet cotton cloth stops the blueing on each step). It's not a professional job but $10 well spent.

I have an original post war K-22 LERK (large ejector rod knob) that is one of my favorite revolvers.

So after I picked up the K22 I decided to try some cold bluing to clean up and protect what areas were corroded. I think it turned out pretty well. i ordered some Oxpho Blue from Brownell's and spent some time with 0000 steel wool. What do you think ?

I somehow missed this post the first time. I am with the rest of the crew/enablers and would have said to buy it for anything less than say $450.00. K-22's are great revolvers and everyone should have one )or more). This one looks nice after the work you did and will be fun and instructional to shoot.

Good fer you! Ya can't undo the rust and pitting , but now ya can enjoy it and won't cry when ya get that first scratch or ding in it.

Didn't catch what ya paid. I'm thinking it should retail about $500. There's a gun dealer I know that does gun shows around my area. Always has nice stuff. He has a 1952 in original box w/tools , comparable condition to my '48 I showed earlier. He's been toting it around for about a year now. He has it tagged at $825. I'm surprised he hasn't sold it. I'm thinking the price and scarcity of .22 ammo is holding it back.

If ya ever come down to SE PA , bring it along and let me know. We'll have a K-22 day!
