Ok,

You guys are to blame. I'm going knife hunting this afternoon on my ride home. Hitting the knife counter at a favorite shop of mine. They handle a good deal of hunting knifes and I'm going to try to find something similiar to a Randall Bird and Trout. Who knows, they always have a few Randalls and once in a while a B&T. Thing is that I want the old pattern, and those are hard to find and pricey. But they carry the new lines of some better makers. I've kicked myself for over two years on a Beretta knife that was authorized by the Bob Loveless estate. This one was early and all Italian made. The new ones have their blades made in Japan and the scales are horrible in comparison.

Giz, Good luck on the hunt, and keep me informed on that hawk. I'm still working on my Puma collection, got some grails I just have to have. Even though they are technically mass produced, the older ones are some of the prettiest knives made. Check out www.pumaknifeman.com he has some of the better ones and his prices aren't to bad.

Giz,
I want to hear more about this pairing up of knives with firearms that you're doing. :) Obviously, you've put a great deal of thought into this.

I've always liked the idea of matching holster rigs and handguns - and adding an appropriate knife to the set sounds like an interesting adjunct to firearms collecting. I just don't seem to have enough imagination to know what makes a good knife/firearm match. :?

I have a shoebox full of knives and if each one is shouting for a particular gun then I can't hear 'em! I need some pointers. Do you try to match ages - like a 75 year-old gun with a 75 year-old knife?

Looks like you've paired up the DU Old Timer with your .41 Mag. Ruger Bisley. (Something tells me that certain Buck knives and Rugers would be a good pairing.) Please give us some other examples!

629 Backpacker with a CRKT Professional. Like I said, normally I try to pair them based on length. Tip of knife to butt about the same length as the guns barrel tip to bottom of gripframe...

Another 629 Paired up with a discontinued Buck

A Camillus fighting knife with another 629...
