Welcome to the forums from the cotton and peanut covered plains of the Wiregrass! You have inherited one fine target revolver -- the K22 Masterpiece made in 1947. Forum member K22 will be along shortly and may have a more precise date for you. The grips are not original but look a bit like early Herrett's. It would have come with sharp shouldered magnas. In 1957, S&W implemented model numbers and it became the Model 17.

I can bracket you; K1563x shipped Feb 1948 and K1627x also shipped Feb 1948. But as we all learn S&W did not ship in serial number order; for example K1548x shipped in Mar 1948.

My father's K-22 shipped in 1947. The stocks are matched to the gun if you are interested to know what they looked like........

Very nice, thanks for posting, those older Smiths are works of art. Some features your gun has over newer ones are a pinned front sight and yours looks like it has a speed hammer. Bet it shoots like a dream. The action should be as smooth as butter. Again, thanks for sharing.
