I think you pegged it perfectly.

Perhaps the seller is too ignorant to realize he has a mongrel. Something about his wording and way he depicts the revolver in some of the photos makes me think he knows.

It's only worth the sum of its usable parts.

Hmmm, pre-war long action with a post war heavy barrel. I'm not sure I've ever seen that before. Maybe at least it shoots good...

I don't normally appreciate heavily altered & refinished guns, especially those that are historically significant, but ya gotta give the fellow who built this credit for imagination and skill in execution ....

He thinned the rib on that 1955 barrel, mating the non ribbed frame to a ribbed barrel and melted in the backsight leaf in the process... adding a modern cylinder assembly to the gun and keeping the triple lock feature was a nice touch.... (anyone else notice that this is a "lefthanded" undercut ejector rod? probably from a very early 25...).... he fixed a suitable ramp front sight and it looks like he didn't overpolish the hell out of the frame when refinishing the gun....

As for the seller, with 223 auctions you'd think he knows what this gun is and is hedging against the ignorance of any potential buyer.....

I agree that the gun was well done. I immediately realized the barrel was cut but it took a second to notice the hole where the third lug used to be. It was a nice job of blending the ribbed barrel to a non-target frame.

Back on topic after a little pothole....

I looked at the seller's other auctions and it would appear that he is a Milsurp Guy and the commercial stuff he has is mostly Pawn Shop Dreck.....

Maybe he can be forgiven for his wishful thinking and somewhat creative marketing.... in any event, it would appear that he isn't fooling anybody..... no bids yet except the $100 "starter"....
