Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! You have a 38 military and police revolver from the mid 1920s. This is one of the most produced handguns in history. Smith & Wesson sold around 7 million of them. It appears to be in good condition but the photographs are not detailed enough to be able to gauge the condition of the Finish. Most of these guns sell in the $400 to $500 range.

Prob shipped around the middle of 1924. My 5" barrel (s/n 4537xx) shipped 9/24.

BlackBat, it can't be a .38 S&W because they weren't made until the late 1930's for the British. The OP's gun has a mushroom shaped ejector rod knob. That was changed in 1928 to a barrel shaped rod knob.
