I have been looking for a Model 19 or a Model 28 at my local gun shows here in Tucson for the past couple of years. Today, as luck would have it, I managed to sell two pistols and a shotgun just before I ran into a fellow selling a Model 19-4 in very nice condition. A few moments of jaw-jackin' later and we had a deal. This is my first Smith & Wesson. I can hardly wait to shoot it. I would appreciate some help on manufacturing date. The Serial Number is E6 74935.

Hi CruzerX,

A warm welcome to the forum. welcome01

Visit and post often. kfjdrfirii

Could you recheck that number on the butt of your gun? The one you gave looks like an assembly number not a serial.

You folks sure know how to make a body feel welcome. Thanks!

The proper serial number is 147K177.

First half of 1977 would be my guestimate

Hi CruzerX,
Serial 147K177 should be 1982 both in the Standard Catalog of SMITH & WESSON and my recollection of selling a lot of Model 66s and model 19s in that time period. The serial got up to 311Kxxx in 1983 and went to the 3 letter 4 digit series that we see now.

CruzerX,
I know two members that think you have one of the finest wheelguns ever produced by S&W. I'm one of them!
The Model 19 is the quintessential wheel gun. You will love it. The 4" barrel is ideal, not too heavy or too long. Great balance of all that is good in a hand gun. You will enjoy it for a very long time I'm sure.

I'm sure many others will agree too.

Hi CruzerX, I was at that show too. I had a table and had a couple of revolvers on it, along with a number of AK's and other guns. Welcome. I'm new here too. :D
