Have a M&P .45c acp and just came from range. Was going to clean it and the slide will not lock back. Nor will the slide come off after pulling the trigger and releasing the seer. I thought of taking the firing pin out but can’t get the slide far enough back to do it.
any suggestions?

Did you read the owners manual thoroughly and carefully? I have different brands of guns and each one has its own process, even for getting the slide to lock back! I have one that the only way to get the slide to lock back is to have an empty magazine in place. Really!

M&P version 1... you have to lock back the slide, remove the magazine, flip down the locking lever, line up the slide, pull the trigger to release the sear, and slide the receiver off the frame.

Is the magazine still in the pistol?

If this will not work properly, it may be gunsmith or mother ship time.

Thanks for the reply. I am not a newbie to guns so know how to remove a slide. However the slide goes to the rear only about an inch before it stops therefore unable to lock it back. When I turn the take down lever down and pull the trigger it still does nothing.
