I have a nice Smith & Wesson Military & Police - the letter from S&W says it left the factory in 1946 with checkered walnut grips. I need to know if the grips that are on the revolver as pictured are the grips that S&W put on their revolvers on this date. Are these grips correct for a 1946 S&W M&P? Thanks for any help. BEN

Hi and welcome, benewah.
That M&P is in beautiful shape, and you can be very proud of it.
Those grips are much older than the gun, and they were in use prior to circa 1920.
They are worth some money to a collector of guns from that era.
Your gun would have come with a 'magna'-style, diamond-checkered set of grips.
Glad to have you here as a member!

Ben, Welcome to this Forum. As Don said above and I said on the other Public Forum, the correct grips would be Magna style with silver medalions, and the grips you have are worth more than the Magnas, so you should be able to swap for a nice pair correct for your gun with any grip dealer. Ed.
