Not New to S&W in General but new to their revolvers. Love the M&P and shield series semi autos. However I just aquired a couple LEO trade ins of the 38 special type. Model 10-8s. Most accurate gun I've fired. 20191122_115006.jpg
Just finished cleaning these. One no internal rust and the other, only a couple spots of surface rust the Balistol took care of quick. Action is tight, springs are strong, and trigger is light. Notice the color case Hardening on the hammers and triggers. The triggers are hard to due to wear.

Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your pair of Model 10s...

If the trigger drags or is gritty, the most likely issue to start looking at is the trigger return spring and it's spring frame. That part that contains the trigger return spring, as well as the frame and the frame plate, leave the factory polished smooth in the surfaces that rub against each other as you start the trigger pull. If those are dirty, have congealed grease or have become rough, it will give you a dragging or gritty trigger pull.

Resist any thoughts of messing with the sear or sear engagement. A good cleaning and internal action inspection will go a long way.
