So, picked up this revolver and am interested to find out exactly what it is and approx. when it was made. Serial number matches on butt, frame and cylinder. 204843

I'm assuming a model 1905. Barrel has "38 S&W Special CTG" stamped on it. It has 4 side plate screws and one on the trigger guard. It has a 4" barrel with fixed sites. Under the extractor looks like assembly number 4383.

Welcome to the forum!

Nice old Smith. That is a M&P, but as they made changes to the design they would refer to such as M&P, Model of... and then have a change number as things were altered on the revolvers.
