can anyone help me with the date of mfg of a baby russian #480xx - cal 38 s&w - I think its the 2nd model no.2 but not sure.

First off, Welcome to the forum!, Second, we like pictures! Don't see too many of the older guns and a couple photos would go a long ways.

As you may be aware, the 38 Single Action 2nd Model was made from 1877 to 1891 with serials between 1 and 108255. Your serial falls roughly half way between the bunch, but nothing can truly be gained from knowing that. A letter from S&W would be worth the time and money {$50}

The serial number is too high to be a Baby Russian, so it's probably a .38 SA, 2nd Model.
