About 5 weeks ago my oldest daughter asked if I would make a little step-stool for my 18 month old grandson for Christmas so he can reach the sink to brush his teeth and shave. Of course I said I would do it. She sent me this picture of one she found for sale somewhere online with the note, “Maybe something like this.

With that for a rough guideline I went to the lumberyard and got an 8 foot 1x6 and an 8 foot 1x8. Decided almost right away to add a little storage compartment under the top step, flush with the first step. It made for some tight areas for final assembly and a snubbie screwdriver sure came in handy.

My daughter is only about 5 foot nothing. I told her that if Miles let her borrow it that holding her or most any adult would not be a problem. Glued, screwed, dowelled with extra blocking in the lower corners. Its roughly 16 inches by 16 and about a foot tall. Would consult plans for exact dimensions but there arent any other than the image I had in my head when I started.
A Safety Razor. He wont be old enough for a straight razor for another year or 2 :D

I ran my own cabinet shop for a while. I am a lot more used to working with oak, cherry and maple with a stained or oiled finish than I am with pine and paint. Kitchen cabinets in background are my work.
