These were favored saddle scabbard rifles of the Border Patrol and many western lawmen. In desert country with long shots being prevalent, the 30-06 cartridge far out distanced the 30-30. Indeed, one could easily see Border Patrolmen armed with 1895's slipped into their saddle scabbards and S&W 1926's on their hip.....

I've had several Winchester 1895 30-06's in my life but due to their age (and collectible status), I've been hesitant to actually shoot them much with modern ammunition. So today when I came across the Browning Arms remake, I wrangled a deal.

I bought a Winchester repo when thye first came out in 30/06. First thing I did was take it to my gunsmith to change the sights. He installed a post blade front and a Williams 5D foolproof peep sight on the rear.....MUCH better that the originals. I still have and enjoy it.
