My wife, 12 year old son, and I were drawn for javelina in New Mexico. We live in the northwest part of the state - no little piggies here - but the tags are statewide. Has anyone here hunted javelina in NM, or have any suggestions on where to find them? Thanks

Never hunted in New Mexico {but would like to} but those critters love eating roots of prickly pear cactus here in Az. They are around here in the river bottom {1,000 FT more or less} and are seen up to about the 6 or 7,000 ft level. You can smell them before you see them. They don't see very well, can hear well and despite their smell, they can smell you coming. The last one my nephew shot, he used his Sig in 40 S&W. His friend used a Ruger in 45 ACP. Both shots were under 30yds as I recall. Find and take a javalina call and use it.
