Hello, I recently picked up this absolutely gorgeous 27-2 in an interesting box. I don’t think it’s factory, but its so nicely made and I’m not the most knowledgeable on these. Did someone make this? If so they did a great job. There’s initials (?) on the outside, MGG, small stampings near the inside of the hinges that say 27, 357, and 142 (?). It’s red velvet on the inside.

Yep, aftermarket for sure. It is much better made than anything S&W ever used. It appears to be solid oak, not veneered plywood

Someone did a heck of a job in making that, they went the extra route by using barrel hinges... not easy to work with.
