Just one of the joys of South Carolina's early deer season opening (Tuesday). Went to sight in my rifles today. To say the least,he was an unwelcome visitor! This Canebreak was 58" long, figuring in 4" that I cut off. Ten rattles and a button. What do y'all figure I'll be thinkin' about while I'm walking to my stand Tuesday morning in the dark? I HATE snakes!

Nice one!
This is why my father-in-law wears snake boots when he hunts near Bowman, SC.
He also carries a S&W 640-1 with snake shot.

Nice size snake, looks like a future belt!!
Maybe to you, but it looks like a guitar strap to me. I made a rattle snake guitar strap about 25 years ago, but it's worn out and needs to be replaced.

Rattle snake karma coming up?

Huh...

First off I see you not fat at all!

Secondly, it looks like your name isn't even Tom.

Tom, a friend and I were driving through Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois(near Garden of the Gods) this last weekend and saw a timber rattler ever bit of 6'(came close to touching both sides of a gravel two trail when extended), biggest one I've ever seen. Of course, they're protected down there and we couldn't take him. My friends deer hunting camp was close by and he doesn't want problems with DNR.

Hard for me to believe that those critters are protected Steve. I've never seen a six footer. That's a huge rattler!

Look at the pronounced black line on the left side of the snake, the man's shorts and part of the stick.
