today I pickd up a fairly nice little 4" 29-3 (SN ALBXXXX - smack in the middle of 1985) wearing a set of Hoague Mono-grips. Get it home adn ready to put some targets I have laying around on it. Get the Hogues off and RB....RB? wait a minute. Check again yup 29-3, ALB- 1985. RB? Am I missing something here. I didn't think they changed over to RB until 1996 or so. Anybody want to help me out on this one? (I'll get some pics up Sat AM)

Re: A little help on a 29-3 RB please...

The first special run of Model 29-3s was made for Lew Horton in 1985. The 200 guns produced were called the 44 Combat Magnum and featured a round butt. However, they had a three-inch barrel. The serial number of the one of these guns is ABL2946. Since your revolver has a 4-inch barrel, it could have had a barrel change, was made from an overrun of frames made for the 44 Combat Magnum, or could be something entirely different.

Thanks for the reply Doc. SN is ALB3858. 900 or so off of the one mentioned. Could be a rebarreled Combat Magnum or left over frame.

Here are some pics wearing some Altamont RBs from a 21-4. Kinda makes it look like a kit gun on steroids. :)

Doc, if I could ask one more question - I take it this should wear combats?

The gun would certainly look good with combat stocks and that is what I would put on it. I would letter the gun to find out how it left the factory. It would be worth the $50. It appears to be a rare configuration and a factory letter verifying it would certainly enhance its value.

Well, took it to the range yesterday, and it was a pussycat with the magnas.... when loaded with specials ;) . I forgot to bring the rb to sq conversion targets I have, so just used a glove and magnas. Managable, but after 3 cylinders full of Mags, I decided to go back to specials :D
