Today I purchased an 8 shot extension for my 870. It has an 18" bbl and the extension sticks out past the muzzle about 2". Is it ok to fire or should I find a shorter extension? Please advise, thanks. James
I definitely would not shoot this gun if the mag is 2" past barrel. Try to return the mag extension and swap for six round extension. For extra ammo availability, you can also add a six shell holder on the side of the receiver.
Charlie you're right the 8 shot extension holds 7 and one in the chamber. I did have a 7 shot that held 6. It also matters if you use 2 3/4" or 3" shells. My 870 is an old wingmaster that only accepts 2 3/4" shells. Good enough for me for my upstairs home defense shotgun.
I would think that 7 or 8 shots of 12 ga. cartridges of any length would deter most any intruder!!
