S&W is sending me out a UPS tag to send my 642, with a broken hammer stud, back for warranty work. I was wondering how the heck you can get a good strong install in a soft aluminum frame like a 642? I realize this isn't too common of a problem. That kinda suprises me though.

Think they'll repair it or give me a new frame? The frame I have is a no-lock.

They will fix it. You don't what a new frame with the lock, do you?
It's has an Scandium Alloy Frame, so it's tough and light. Sometimes they break. If the pin is weak or has been improperly heat treated it can happen. MIM pins don't bend, they will just snap.

If they do you like me...they'll call and ask you if you'd accept a "BRAND NEW" M-642 in it's place.

UPDATE: S&W called. They are replacing the frame. The new frame will NOT have the IL, just as the returned one did not. I gotta pick it up at my FFL next week. I gotta do the Massachusetts transfer on the gun at a FFL.
