I have an 8 3/8” beauty of a 629 (pictured with my 686) and she looks great with her S&W sisters in my collection.
The question: should I get her a holster and make it my outdoors sidearm, or leave her be for range time and instead get a Ruger Super RedHawk to just disrespect with hot rounds a throw downs?
I don’t live near bear country so overall I could get away with a pointy stick for safety, but that’s no fun.
P.s I also have a 8 3/8 500 Mag, which could make this all a moot point anyway. Thanks y’all! Font Metal Kitchen utensil Machine Art

You are a glutton for punishment BoonBear. But do you really need an excuse for another gun? Get the holster for the 629 and the Ruger SRH. Just don't forget a holster for it too.

I’ve got a 629, 29-2, and 29-3 silhouette. I need to shoot the big heavies while I can handle it. They aren’t all too bad though even in magnum, specials are certainly more comfortable

If you want to shoot a lot of full power loads I would get the Ruger. I started out as a young man with a new Model 629 in the 80s. In the first year I shot it out of time and had to send it in to the factory to have it fixed. My friend never seemed to have any issues with his Redhawk.
