If I am reading the SN right the production year was 1990. Very nice gun. Give us a range report soon.

Welcome agian to the forum. What questions do you have about your 617?

These are among the finest .22LR firearms ever made. Many people pair these "L" frame revolvers with a 686 and then use them for training, firing lots of .22LR ammo in the 617, and then moving to the 686 to master recoil control over both .38 special and .357 magnum ammo.

The Model 617 K Frame revolvers went into production in early 1990 . Its the Stainless Steel Version of the model 17 K-22 Masterpiece . The first production gun were 4 inch barrels with the 6 inch barrels beginning in 1994 six shot . The 10 shot gun begun production in 1997 Produced in 4, 6, 8 3/8 barrel lengths they all came with Hogue rubber grips unless ordered from the factory with woo grips. The gu is still in current production with the Trigger Lock added in 1999. Weight 41 oz in 4 inch to 52.5 oz in 6 inch

I:n 2000 the 8 3/8 barrels all came with Target Trigger and Hammers

I imagine the recoil in a 52.5oz gun is negligible.................;)

I think the 617 is a K-frame.

Very nice, PeteC. But isn't it missing 4 holes where those bullet-thingys go? 🤪
Full-lug Smiths are my favorite.
