I used to to carry a 5906 in the 90’s as a police officer until the department went to the Glock 22. I have always wanted to purchase one and finally came across 5906 in very good condition. I purchased it but now I am trying to find out what year this Pistol was either manufactured or released. I have not been able to find any 5906 info the with serial number prefix starting with BAW. Any info would be helpful. I have made several calls to Smith and Wesson but haven’t been able to talk to a person yet.

Hi Mav816,
The 3 letter 4 digit serials have caused a lot confusion and I am sometimes really surprised at the dates given by Roy Jinks. But by the late 1980s the A** were done and then the series went BA* I have a revolver BAR **** shipped 8/1988 so I might think yours would be 1988 or 1989 but many Auto Loaders in the late 1980s and 1990s were T series. When the BAW **** was shipped can only be guessed or answered by Roy.

The Model 5906 went into production in late 1989 and continued in production until 1999. Remaining 5906 became the 5906 TSW in late 1999 until 2000
