Another BUMP in the road....

Last Thursday, 27 August, there was a major fire and several explosions at the Privi Partizan Amunition factory in Uzice, Serbia.

Seven plant employees were killed, many more were seriously injured.

Privi is a major world supplier of 5.56 x 45 (.223) SS109 ammunition. Without their contribution, I expect supplies will be strained in the short term.

Production at this plant will be offline for at least a month I'm told.

You know it is really sad that this country can no longer produce enough ammo to met its own needs. At one time the United States was called the arsenal of the free world. I pray that nothing ever happens to the Lake City ammo plant being as all of the eggs are in one basket now.

Just a little side note : my department has been trying to start up a patrol rifle program for the last 2 years. The delay has been in obtaining enough .556 ammo to train the 70 or so officers that have already purchased their own rifles for this program. 1st it was no money in the budget, then it was no ammo available for purchase. End results is no rifles in the the patrol cruisers.
