I have the same Model 457 and need the Magazine catch also. I see I can purchase plastic cap (Magazine Release Button) and Catch Spring.... did you have any luck finding a solution or available parts anywhere?
457 mag catch replacement
I have a 457 that needs a new mag catch. I have read IIRC that some 457's that went to law enforcement had the mag catch updated to metal.
The 457 has a catch, catch nut and a tornado type spring.
Any reason why a mag catch, mag catch nut, mag catch plunger and mag catch spring for a 4576 wouldn't work?
Both are 3rd generation. The 4576 having a steel frame vs the alloy 457 frame.
I can't believe the up graded LEO 457's had special made mag catches.

I thought the frame was machined a little different on the "Value Line" guns (including the standard Model 457) with respect to the magazine release. Am I wrong about that? Note: Too old & lazy to check for myself today.

I gotcha... and I see you are right. The plastic nut is readily available and so is the spring, but the 457 catch itself seems to be hard to come by. Over on the blue forum, there's a thread or two about using a 4506 catch and nut on a 457 and you can apparently do it without modifying the 457 frame for the plunger. Instead, you locktight the nut on so it doesn't spin off. Have you considered that approach?I am not sure about any of that.. I ended up using the mag catch (metal) and nut (metal) for the 4506 though I had also ordered the spring and detent that goes with the 4506 (Numrich gun parts). I ended up not using the detent and spring since it would have involved drilling a hole that would be centered half way on the frame along the perimeter of the existing hole. Or, I guess you could use a tiny diameter end mill. So, I used the existing tornado spring and put it back together with a dab of blue Locktite. I marked the retaining nut with a tiny white mark at 12:00 o'clock and told the owner to occasionally make sure the nut hasn't started to back off.
The owner was happy with the "fix" since he was tired of having his magazine fall out. Not sure how much a gunsmith would charge to drill (machine) the hole necessary for the detent/spring.
I doubt you'll ever find the original nylon mag catch unless you luck out looking through boxes of parts at a gun show.
