I have a friend who is a reloader. I asked him to load me up some .45/70 loads for deer. According to Iowa law they have to be hollowpoints. He just called and said nobody has components for this cartridge.
Anybody know where to get them?
Are cast lead bullets allowed?
Did a quick look on the Iowa DNR site and saw mention of the hollow points being good and FMJ as bad. Saw no specific mention of jacketed soft point or all lead projectiles (though there is plenty mention of the evils of lead and the possibility of ingestion tiny fragments when eating game). As far as I'm concerned hollow points, in any caliber cartridge, are a poor choice for big game. But I guess their concern is for limiting range in flat areas.
