Zipped over to the range this morning and ran about 50 44 Special rounds thru my Ruger Redhawk (44 mag). The loads I was using this morning were 200 grain flat nose lead bullets at about 700 fps. Except for a couple of hits right at the bottom of a steel plate, the loads were consistantly effective. I've got a bunch of 180 grain cast lead bullets for the 44 so when I got home I made up a box (50 rds) using the 180 grain flat nose lead bullets and 5.5 gr of Bullseye powder. These should be good for about 800 fps. My goal is to have enough power factor to consistantly drop the plates but not so much as to have excessive recoil. Will test these soon. More to come.
