I'm looking for a list of light loads (Cowboy or lighter) for the 38 Special cartridge to use for steel plate matches. The trick is to find the load(s) that will reliably knock the steel plates down but have as light a recoil as possible. I'm thinking a lighter bullet, perhaps in the 125-130 grain weight range with a muzzle velocity of 750-800 fps or maybe a bit less. I usually reload with Herco, W231 and Unique. For example, I think a load of about 4.0 grains of W231 under a 125 grain cast bullet might be close. Oh yes, I want to stay with a round nose or truncated cone type bullet to help with making quick reloads using speedloaders. What say ye, oh brain trust?

How about a 148 gr. HBWC with 2.7 grs. Bullseye or 3.7 grs. Unique. Thinking perhaps a heavier bullet might result in more "thump" on the plates.
