This was my Great Great uncles service pistol in the force in the City of Chicago. I just like knowing all I can about the old forearms I have any info would be helpful. Markings as follows

Barrel- 38 S. & W. SPECIAL CTG

Frame under cylinder arm- J63492

Trade mark on frame under hammer- circular trade mark with REG. US. PAT. OFF stamped underneath

Stamp under cylinder on bottom right of rame under cylinder- MADE IN U.S.A.
MARCAS REGISTRADAS
SMITH & WESSON
SPRINGFIELD, MASS.

Smith & Wesson logo on circular metal plate pressed into top of grips on both sides.

Also have his orginal leather service holster. It needs alot of work. But I have it!

Welcome to the forum. Your Great,Great Uncles gun was made in 1948 and is known as the 38 Military & Police
