I have a Smith and Wesson .38 S&W Spl. Ctg., nickel plated with pearl grips and 6” barrel pistol that my grandfather found in a ditch years ago. The first 3 numbers of the six digit s/n is 165. Any info would be greatly appreciated and I’d also like to know what specific ammo it will accept. I know .38 S&W won’t fit. I’ve been trying to find the Spl. Ctg. ammo, with no luck. Thanks

You have an Model 1905 M&P 3rd change Target from about 1910 or so. It's been renickeled as the sights should be blued. It's chambered for .38 Special which should be available. Try it with 158 grn lead round nose. That seems to work well in these.
I'd recommend you treat the plated surfaces with Naval Jelly, followed with gun oil to stop the rust that's appearing.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! .38 Special is a very popular caliber and there is a run on ammo right now. You may have to place an order online and wait for it to be filled.
