Cloan....

So you practice this? NICE. 10 mm is pretty rare.....actually anything other than 9 mm Parabellum is pretty rare. I only carry .38 SPL or .45 ACP and I keep my firearms clean as a whistle.

I own something like 2 dozen 9mm Para's but haven't carried one since 2012.

"anything other than the 9mm is pretty rare"........That is about the most off the wall statement I've ever read,....You must not get out much,

May not be rare per se, but is easily by far, most common and of my friends that I know carry (police and military included) gotta be 90%+ carrying 9mms. I know 3 carry nothing but 45, 1 carries a 44mag all the time and 1 each 40 Short&Weak, 38spl and 380. All the rest 40-50 all 9mm, all the time. Course some carry 2. 😂 I don't know anyone else that carries a 10mm except a few buddies that carry them as backups for Brown Bear guiding, but that ain't concealed. I am sure there are some that do, but few. I wish someone would make true compact, ultralight 10mm. They could make something like the Springfield V10 1911 in a scandium/titanium frame, I'd buy 2. What do your friends carry other than 9s?

The Shield plus 30sc with 16+1 rounds of HST will be more formidable than your current Shield plus loaded with 13+1 of 9mm 147gr HST. The energy of the 30sc HST is higher than the 147gr HST, but not as high as the 124gr HST or obviously the +p HST. Why would any of you think an HST in 30sc wouldn't get the job done when all the videos so far show the 30sc HST to expand and penetrate no differently than your current 9mm HST's. No surgeon or medical examiner will notice the difference between a wound from a 30sc HST or a 9mm HST.

If your argument is "it expands less", then why are any of us carrying a 9mm when the 40 and 45's expand more than any 9mm? Capacity is a major selling point, and nobody would dispute 3 extra rounds in the EXACT SAME SIZE GUN wouldn't persuade newer shooters. Not everybody is a gun person and we need newer shooters and buyers to continue building up the community, because we all know the anti gun people will keep working to destroy the 2nd amendment.

With the Shield+ 30sc now released and starting to trickle in to stores, I'm definitely picking one up to add to my 9mm Shield+. Why complain about having an extra gun when 2 guns is better than 1 gun?

Welcome to the forum, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But you may end up with a caliber that is DOA, if you get a Super .30 gun.

A big company like S&W releasing their Shield+ in 30sc is a generally a signal of acceptance. Any decent sales and Springfield, Sig, Glock, Ruger, Shadow Systems, Taurus etc will jump in with their stack and a half competitors. If Smith can get 3 more rounds into their Shield+, then all the others have nothing to lose since it seems to just be a barrel, extractor, and magazine change. Critical Defense 30sc ammo was also just announced, so if the premium self defense rounds are already on board, then it's a good sign. I've already seen the HST rounds at my local gun store and they were priced exactly the same as my regular 9mm HST rounds I carry.

OK, but I still wouldn’t get it. When the .41 Action Express came out, it seemed like a good idea. Then the .40 S&W destroyed it.

It pays to wait a while, to see if the gun &caliber will make it, or just drift into obscurity.

On the flip side, if no one is willing to break from the herd and be an early adopter that pretty much relegates anything new to obscurity from day 1. Which may or may not be a bad thing. Just because something exists doesn't necessarily mean it's good and maybe obscurity is where it belongs. But for good things to be discovered someone has to be willing to take the plunge, put the thing through it's paces, and see if it's good bad or indifferent.

I think the round has potential. We'll see just how much potential it has. I'm happy with the pistols I have at the moment, but if I were to buy another an optic ready shield plus in 30 SC is a strong contender.

Speaking of optic-ready in general, I'm about at a place where I've given up on my vintage S&W revolver goals and am ready to turn back to plastic wonder guns for a while... but this time: optic-ready plastic. I don't even have one optic-ready (or optic-equipped) pistol in my entire collection. That has to be fixed before Dementia Joe B outlaws everything.

For you optic fans, what would be the one 9mm optic-ready (or optic-equipped) plastic wonder gun that you'd buy if you were in my shoes?

It doesn't have to be particularly small or concealable... just best suited for use with a pistol optic. (y)

Well, since you're here I'm assuming you like S&W. My preference is either an M&P or a Shield. If you want something you can carry, Shield. If you just want a fun range toy, it's hard to go wrong with an M&P.

Oh, not necessarily. :ROFLMAO: My life-long interest in the Mothership is all about those finely-crafted vintage revolvers and those indestructible all-metal semi-auto's. The plastic stuff I could take or leave. But if it turns out that the best optic-ready semi-auto turns out to be a Smith & Wesson, I'll be all over it. (y)

Well, best is subjective. We all have our biases. I've weighed in with mine based on my own ergonomic preferences and reliability standards. For what it's worth, I spent my first 10 years as a pistol owner carrying a 1911, and on most days that's still what I go to. Having ready access to plastic wonder guns hasn't changed that, we likes what we likes.

You are right! (y) I should have asked my question a little differently... i.e., which is the most popular or best-rated 9mm plastic pistol that comes from the factory either 100% optic-ready (without need for a special third party adapter plate) or optic-equipped right in the box?

I'm probably showing my pistol optics ignorance here. Maybe there is no such thing. Are we at the point where all (or most) pistol optics are compatible with most current version plastic pistols? I'm wondering about the Sig P365XL as a possibility... or maybe a Glock 19 Gen 5? If I am only going to own one, I want it to be a really good choice! :D

I'd even consider an all-metal pistol if I could afford it. Chances are I can't. :(

The Glock MOS plates are garbage. And many Glock owners will tell you as much. The P365XL uses the RMSc footprint. Those are smaller and thinner optics. Not something I'd recommend for someone getting acquainted with pistol mounted optics. Best method if you want to avoid mounting plates is direct attach where the slide is cut for a specific pattern of optic. If you were to go that route IMHO I'd choose something that uses RMR pattern.

I feel like a "babe in the woods" here. :ROFLMAO: You are at least a light year ahead of me! I think I better go do some serious research before jumping at the first attractive deal that comes along. Thank you for your help! (y)
