3" barrel model 10

Hello everyone. This is my first time on this forum. I have a 3" barrel S&W model 10 revolver. It was manufactured for the Turkish Police in I believe in the late 70s or early 80s. As most of you know, S&W never made a model 10 in a 3 " barrel. I cannot find ANYTHING about this piece on the web ANYWHERE! It's been very frustrating. I hope someone can help me with any info on this gun. I inherited it from my dad. He once told me it's an overrun from a Turkish contract with S&W, and only a few were ever sold in the U.S. It's never been fired and it's still in the original box! I'm sure it's valuable since S&W never made a 3 " barrel model 10, and no S&W collection can be complete without one. Please, if anyone can help, please let me know. Thank You, Matt S.

Thanks WendyZXZ! Glad my dad recognized that this piece was special and made that known to his sons. Without that, we probably would've sent thousands of rounds through her. Instead it remained unfired! Smart man.
Hi guys & gals. As hard as I've tried, I just cannot get anyone to commit to even a round-about ballpark figure on the approx. value of this beauty. Most people I've spoken to, or chatted with, agree that's it's valuable, but no one will commit to a figure. Is it really that hard to value, or is it like one gentleman told me; That I have to have it appraised by pros. If anyone can help. please.....DO! Thanks for all the help you've all been to me! 😎 p.s. I remembered today that a letter of authenticity already exists on this piece from Smith & Wesson, written by the late, great, Roy Jinks! I'm going to my storage this week where I keep my dad's things. I will find it. Dad was pretty meticulous. 😎😎.

i have a modest 3” K frame collection. Attached picture is missing 4-5 that I picked up in the last few months. With that being said, the 3” 38’s (mod 10 & 64) bring less than the comparable .357 magnums (model 13 & 65. Model 66 is in a different zone itself). Watching auctions, forums and classified ads I would say your gun would sell for $650-700 from person to person. In a gun shop probably $50 more depending on location. On GB Auction all bets are off. Ii just depends on who sees it and if you get a couple of motivated bidders, it could go for more. If it were passed down to me it would be priceless. I’d shoot the snot out of it and get mote enjoyment than any amount of money I could get

Roy Jinks is still alive unless he passed away in the last week. He recently retired as Chairman Emeritus of the S&W Collectors Association and has pretty much turned over historical letters to others. He put all his gun collection up for auction about a year ago and gave away a lot of his knickknacks such as D. B. Wesson's desk and office door knob. The man has given a lot to the S&W collector community and deserves some rest.

As to a value for your gun, no one knows. That's why most hedge to answer your question. They rarely show up for sale and one has not been sold since I began collecting...at least not publicly. So, there is little history to base an appraisal on. Sorta like valuing a house for resale with no comps. A market price will have to be set in order to make an informed guess. There are basically two ways to do this. 1. Put it up for auction and see what the highest bidder is willing to pay. 2. Put a price on it then put it up for sale and see if you get any takers. IMO, you could start in the $1500 range and see if the fish are biting.

My heart felt apologies to Mr. Jinks and his family. I thought I remembered reading something on him, but obviously I was wrong. I guess my ignorance on such subjects is showing. That's why I've been asking questions from all of you. Man, I wish dad was still here. He was the real firearm intellect of the family. Again, sorry Roy.
Thanks Wiregrassguy. I'm not in a hurry to sell it. Maybe I'll just sit back and see what happens. Thanks for the info.
