27-5 Action Binding

184 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  WendyZXZ
I am new to this forum, so I apologize if I am asking a question that has already been answered. I took my 4" 27-5 to the range today and ran 200 rounds of 158gr 357 tmc (it's just fmj with a dumb name) ammo from Ammo inc through it with no problems. I came home and cleaned the revolver well (especially the breech face and under the ejector star), but now the action is binding up. I can't cock the hammer or pull the trigger. I can press the cylinder release and open the cylinder. I have never had this problem before. Any ideas as to what may be going on?

Welcome to the forums from the cotton and peanut covered plains of the Wiregrass! Did you remove the side plate to clean inside the action? Check your extractor rod hasn't backed out (left hand thread). Also, check if the front of the cylinder is binding on the forcing cone by pulling back on the cylinder while you cock the hammer
Thanks for the input, Wiregrassguy. I played with the side plate a little and realized that the screws were a bit loose. When I tightened them up, the problem went away. I guess the force of 200 rounds of 357 caused the screws to loosen up enough to the point that it was causing problems internally.

I'm glad you got it fixed. Don't forget to post some pictures of your M27 so we can covet it. ;)

Funny. If the front side plate screw (cylinder retaining screw) was loose enough I guess it could let the cylinder move enough to jam like that. I don't think I've ever heard of that though.
