I was 67 years old and had no income other than birthday & Christmas cards, and the occasional loose tooth.
I have a 1969 model 15-3, bought used in 2017 for $400. That gun would have cost about $90 back then
In 1969 I was still in high school. I went into the Army in '71 and stayed 5 years. Bummed around for a year after that until starting as an apprentice at a BMW dealership in very early 1977, making a salary of $75 a week. I couldn't afford to buy guns at that point. Even though I started shooting with my uncles before a teenager and loved guns, I couldn't afford one. Times, and prices, have certainly changed.
My father passed about 6 years ago. I found our family budget from around 1967 in this notebook. Also found his old pay stubs. Take home was ~ $80/week. We had a nice house, car and family of four living a good life. My sister was taking horse back riding lessons.
