Cleaning and moving guns and ammo.Came across this 19-4 I have not seen for a while and gave it a scrubbing down. Got the grips off...and it appears to have the serial number stamped on the RH grip. Factory? Not that it's a "collectible" as the nickel finish has a couple of grey spots here and there, but otherwise it is just a well kept shooter. Just wondering if S&W did box these up with factory Combats if someone ordered one?

The grips do fit like factory and appear to have been on the revolver for a long time from the wear they left on the frame. I suppose a historic letter would tell the whole story but it’s not that important to me. I always thought combat grips were added after the factory but then again there have been special runs like Lew Horton use to do.I guess anything is possible. If only guns could talk. :)
