10mm in the House!

Hey everyone! I successfully facilitated a partial trade last night for a Smith and Wesson 1086. This is my first 10mm, I haven't shot it yet, but I did get a box of 180gr. Blazers with the gun, along with some empty brass. Just wondering if anyone else has one. Kind of wondering how you like yours, what you carry it in, what you like to shoot in it. I will be reloading my own ammo, so that may make a difference. I'll try to post a few pictures of it later tonight when I get home. I actually meant to buy it last week, but on my way to get it...this little 15-3 2" nickel called my name and I got it instead. I need to post it's picture too! Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone on here was a 10 fan. Thanks!

I love the 10mm cartridge, and the story behind it. unfortunately, I do not own one, and will probably pick up a glock 20, because S&W 10mm's are few and far between, it seems. have fun with it. i have only shot the g20, it's what I learned on years ago. Congratulations on a nice purchase!

F150guy, I had a chance to look at a couple Glock's, the 20 and the 29, which is the sub compact 10 mm. I just wanted something more in my hand for the 10, it is supposed to have some pretty outta the park pressure behind it...just felt like a poly frame might wear down faster. The little 29 would be perfect for cce, but I don't think I'd wanna shoot it a lot for fun.

Anyway, here a a couple pics I just made of it. Too bad I haven't had time to clean it up and shoot it yet. And I really need a better camera.

I had the 1006. I picked it up in a pawn shop for about $400. It had a terrible looking millet adjustable sight that was not made for it. I took it to my smith and he installed a novak fixed sight the day before I had to requalify for my chl. I shot a perfect score, my only complaints were ammo was hard to find and mags even harder. I ended up trading it off for a 610 with a 5" bbl. At least with the revolver I could shoot 40's. I think you will love it if you reload, congrats. James
My only S&W 10mm is a 610. My semi is a Colt DE that has had extensive work done on it by Ted Yost. I love the 10mm round, it has become my daily carry and is just as at home when hiking.

If you go to Double Tap ammo you can get a sampler box of different loadings to see how they shoot and how you and your new gun likes them.

As was stated above, if you are going to shoot it a lot, you may want to look at reloading. Even a single stage press like the Lee anniversary kit will eventually save you money.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I do reload, and will be reloading for this. I appreciate the tip about doubletapp, I will definitely try that. May be the wrong forum, but if any of you have a favorite load, I'd like to hear about it.

Bob, I looked at the Colt DE, they were very nice but I was able to get this one for about half the price. I'd be interested in hearing what kind of rig you have for your Colt. I wouldn't mind carrying this one ccw, just need to find a good holster for the job.

Thanks.
I carry the Colt in 2 different holsters. For IWB I have a Milt Sparks VM2 and for OWB I have a Milt Sparks I-BAK.

Both of them work very well for concealment.

I don't do a lot of concealed carry anymore, I mainly open carry. For that I use a Blackhawk Serpa for the Colt and I have had a couple of Tauris holsters ( http://www.taurisholsters.com/index.cfm ) made for the 610. I can't say enough good things about the Tauris holsters, they work very well. Mike Taurisano, the maker is very easy to work with. He will talk to you about your needs, adjust patterns for you and make you a true custom holster, all in about 3-4 weeks.

I have tried the doubletap 10mm and I like it. Be advised Mike's loads are pretty stout. His 200gr hardcast is rated 750 ft/lbs out of a Glock 20. I believe it. They really barked and bucked in my Kimber like no other 10mm I ever tried.

Yowzer  ...

7tenz, ??? if you don't mind...

Know offhand what the velocity was out of the G20?

I assume hardcast really means hardcast, maybe with gascheck?, to use out of the Glock right?

Can I also assume its got a sharp edged wide meplat?

Thanks in advance...

Currently use a G29 with Buffalo Bore 200 FMJ/FP rated @ 1200FPS (which would put it just below 700FPE, off the top of my head), and that's pretty stiff, for concealed day hiking duties around NW Wyoming ;) . The DoubleTap sounds a bit hotter @ 750FPE and with a sharper flat point I'd imagine, being hardcast.

Every little bit might help considering all I'd be asking of the 10mm in a worst case scenario...There are some really large hairy beasts out there...And bears too ;) :D

He rates the 200 gr hardcast wide flat nose gas check at 1300 mv from a g20. Somebody posted a link to his webpage. Or try doubletapammo.com

Mike got his start from hotrodding the 10mm and apparently worked out so good he went into oter calibers as well. Top notch stuff in my opinion.
I LOVE my G20. The 10mm shoots like a cross between a cannon and a laser, for me anyway. I don't reload for it, but I have a supply of the really good Winchester 175 gr Silvertips, as well as some Double Tap, and various other plinking type rounds.

In the G20, the recoil is stout, but for me it feels more like a push than a snap, if you know what I mean. I've shot hot .357 SIG's that were snappier and actually less pleasant to shoot than the 10mm. Two of my very favorite rounds, by the way.

I'd love to find a nice S&W 10mm, but I have not seen one at a dealer's or gun show in many years. Thinking about a new 610 in the meantime.

If you want a Glock 10mm, don't worry about the polymer. People have been denigrating the Glock for decades now, and some of the first guns are still trucking. People keep saying"...any year now, it's gonna break, I tell you...!" The 10mm was the second round ever chambered in a Glock, so they have it pretty well figured out. You might want to get a G20 SF if you have the choice though, a little grip reduction is a good thing.

Great. Hope it works out for you. You will have a tiger in that g29.
One more thing. After 50 rds out of my Kimber, it leaded up the bore pretty good, so keep an eye on your barrel.

I dont remember if I mentioned it, but they won't quite chamber in my 3" 610. I actually bought them for it in the first place, but now have to use them up in one of the autos. I think it will put some extra strain on it, but I'm not worried a whole lot. As far as accurcy, well, it's a 10mm.
Thanks for the head's up...

I'll have the wife touch off the first few
10-4 on the hairy beasts out there!! The Glock 10 is the rage in Alaskan bear country right now. I'm betting Smith'll have an M+P 10 coming our way soon??? Can't beat 15 shots )How Many Times Can You Miss) when a BEAR'S heading your way!!!!

L.G.
I have 2 1076 and a glock 20 and no matter what you shoot out of the glock it will never outshoot the 1076. Accuracy is not what the glock is made for its made for reliability and still doesnt do any better than my smiths.
Dont get me wrong I like my glock and it fits my hand better than the smith and I have to give Glock credit for taking the initatiave for making one and Ill bet they sold a bunch of them. They work and function flawlessly.
As far as a semi auto pistol cartridge its hard to beat the 10mm.
I shoot my cast 170 gr. truncated cone bullets pushed by a dose of Bluedot in my 1006.
