    Any Unusual Pets out There?

Dogs and cats aren’t unusual, nor are Hamsters, Guinea Pigs, rabbits or fish.
Yesterday I had to do a task I dislike. We have a turtle. A Red Eared Slider to be exact. My middle daughter has always loved frogs, toads, turtles, pollywogs and worms. When she was 6 or 7 she wanted a turtle. We had a decent sized aquarium not being used so we set up and she got a turtle for her birthday. His shell was about 5 inches long. We also have a coffee table/ fish tank. Yep, acrylic coffee table about 40” long and 20” wide at widest point, with a thick glass top thats 45”x 26”. A few years ago the last fish had died out, so we moved the turtle into the bigger tank. He had grown, and needed more space anyways. I spent a good 4 hours yesterday completely emptying the tank then took it outside for a good cleaning. All the little glass beads in the bottom were cleaned and rinsed and the stone grotto was dismantled, cleaned and rebuilt. Then I brought it in and ran the hose to it to refill. I also added some warm water to the tank. It looks good now and “Pete’s” place has been refurbished. He has room to grow some too. His shell is now 7” long and 5” wide. Oh, one more thing. My daughter was 7 when she got him. Now she is almost 24. I think the turtle is around 19-20 years old. Will likely outlive me

Nothing unusual here but Pete does look like a real conversation piece. Think your daughter will ever take him home?

She just graduated from college and is job hunting so for now her home is my home. I think she will take him when she gets established in her own place, but no sense in moving it all til she is someplace she is going to stay for a while

Old Pete looks pretty content in there. What a good Dad, doing all that work for your daughter.

Son in law walked into his garage one afternoon to find a turtle upside down in the middle of the garage floor. He and my daughter are animal lovers so a $200 trip to the pet store later and the turtle has a tank and all the accessories. I think they've had it about 3 years now and it's tripled in size.

Amy has a pet skunk.... She's never gotten close but the skunk is out by the bird feeders every evening and is fearless. He never runs way, just stays there looking for grubs and I assume eats dripped sunflower seeds too. I'd love to have one for a house pet but it would have to be debagged.. They stink...lol

Nothing worse than a skunk fart.

Some friends in the 1950s had a de-scented skunk as a house pet. It was a lot like a cat. It still had a very faint skunk smell when you held it. A friend in the 1980s had a full grown male African lion in a cage that covered their entire back yard.

We used to have a bearded dragon. Named him ZZ after ZZ Top. Get it? Bearded dragon ... ZZ Top.

He was actually a pretty cool little pet.
