Smile Finally scratched that 3913 itch

Well, I finally was able to scratch that 3913 itch. I ordered one earlier this week from Dury's Guns in San Antonio and it arrived at my FFL yesterday. It only came with one magazine, so I will be in the market for at least one other. Other than needing a thorough cleaning, it appears to be in very good shape. The barrel is nice and tight when in battery and there is very little movement between the slide and frame. There are some shiny spots on the frame rails, though. I hope that is normal. Other than the shiny spots, the frame is in great shape. I cleaned it, oiled and greased it up, and it is fine to look at and wonderful to hold. It will be a few days before I can get it to the range, however, but dry firing seems normal. The safety/decocker is a stiff, stiffer than my 5906 anyway. The serial number is VCD9XXX. Anybody have any estimate as to when it might have left the factory?

I tried this in an IWB holster for another firearm and it seems like it might be very comfortable to carry IWB. If all goes well at the range, I may be in the market for an IWB holster as well.

Attached is a picture of my two Smiths (sans magazines) -- 5906 on top and 3913 on the bottom.

Congrats on the 3913, great carry pistol.

I got an email from Greg Cote LLC he has magazines for 33.95. Not cheap but available and the best price I've seen lately.

    Smith&Wesson 3913/908 8 round 190700000 [190700000] - $33.95 : Greg Cote, LLC

You have an awesome pistol there. i can fully understand the desire and the itch to own one of them.
I too had the itch for a 3913 once. But I resolved it with a 5906 instead.
I bought what I thought was a really clean used 3913-TSW, and discovered it was just a 3913. I bought it at the local Cabela's and handled the pistol just before I purchased it.

Now, if any of you have purchased any gun from Cabela's you'll understand how it could be switched without me noticing it till I got out of the store.
Cabela's has a very tight gun handling policy once a gun is sold. They take the gun and the background check paperwork into the back room to do their thing, and call in the BG check. When they're all done they ring up the gun and then escort you and the gun out of the store. It's done to reduce their liability of somebody having hands on access to a gun in their store (Duh! They sell the guns that you've handled already!) If it's a used gun they also put a wire tie wrap around the trigger or thru the exaust port to block it from being used like at a gun show. If it's in a case, they wire tie the case shut.
I got it in the box, and took it home only to become very dis-appointed and upset very quickly once I opened it up.
The case had the 3913 TSW label on it, and the pistol I looked at was the one that should have been in that case.
Somewhere between the time I decided to buy the pistol, and the time the saleperson gave it to me to walk out the door it was switched with a regular 3913.
I took it back immediately and never looked at a 3913 since. I ended up buying a 5906 from another gun dealer instead. I already have a 669 so the 3913 wasn't that much different that I really had to have it.
    Regards,
    Gregory

Teach them the truth, and let them sort thru the cobwebs of liberalism that have infested their minds.
When the time comes that I don't want a new gun, call the undertaker!
When they come for your guns, give them the ammo first!
.45 ACP, Because shooting twice is just plain silly!

Thanks Dave for the heads up. I have purchased from Cote before for my SiG. Quite the episode Greg. That surprises me from a large outfit like Cabela's.

Another has been sucked into the 3913 void!!!! nce you shoot it, you'll start to neglect your other SW semi's, then you'll want better grips, better sights, an maybe a spur hammer just like your 5906. Plus holsters, oh you'll never have enough for her!!! She's been riding since 1994, along with her little buddy!

Thanks. All can't wait to shoot her. I do want to get better grips, but I do like the slimness of the straight back factory ones. I have had Hogues on my other pistols, and I like them for the finger grooves. I note the Hogues available for the 3913 have no grooves. I may just try a Hogue or Pachmayr grip sleeve and see how that works. Has anybody used one on a 3913?

I have a 3913ls that ive been carrying off duty for 15 years and i love it. I do have a hogue slip on grip on it and it works great. It actually makes it fit better in my hand which then improves the accuracy. Glad you got one. They are addicting.
Are you going to pull them pistols or just whistle Dixie?

Thanks for the info re the slip on grip. I will have to buy one before I go to the range and give it a try. Do you recall what size slip on it was for the 3913LS? I wonder if they have different grip sizes for the LS and non LS versions.
