    Bad day at Range

Hard to believe you can have a bad day shooting but this one was terrible.

I was chronographing my loads and after two great results I pulled out the third moon that I loaded with 160 grain bullets in my 929. The very first round blew apart my cylinder. It's now back at Smith & Wesson so they can figure out what caused the problem.

I get all sorts of answers when I posts it.Name: cylinder-3.gif

    Dang,

Glad you're ok. I'm sure S&W will claim it's an ammo related problem, even if it wasn't. As soon as you say "handload", they throw up their hands and walk away.

And you're right, that is a BAD day at the range.

Handloading can have it's pitfalls. That's why I don't handload. I mostly use new ammo. But, once in a while, I buy commercial reloads. Better safe than sorry. Bob

Good Heck! I hope you're OK? Guns can be replaced. Let us know what S&W finds to be wrong. I think it's a 1/2 charge of powder or less. With a short charge you get 3 ignitions not two. Gas peaks way too high. This happened to me 30+ years ago. S&W fixed my 29, also sent a sour letter. I hope you get shooting soon! Glad yer OK!

Did just the one charge hole cause this or did the adjacent cartridges explode as well?
