My very favorite guns and barrel length

I have since swapped out the grips and the rear sight on the 686 and it has been my carry for the last few months.

    No kidding!

I've always loved Smiths with 3" barrels... they just have the perfect balance.

I had a Lew Horton 3" 629 and a 2 1/2" Lew Horton 686 (they didn't make it in 3"!) back in the 80's. I had a 3" 65 for many years, and a Performance Center ported 3" 13 for a while. All of which I eventually sold and regretted. With the possible exception of the Horton 629, which I had Mag-na-ported. It was quite unpleasant to shoot!

I've been on the hunt recently for another 3" K... a local gun shop has a 3" 66 "behind the counter" gun that I haven't been able to convince them to sell me. Another shop has a late 3" 65 they want $900 for!

I said 'screw it' and ordered a new 19 K Comp the other day. Once I build the gun fund back up, I'll start looking for pre-lock 3" guns again! Or maybe a 3 1/2" 27... If I can find one I don't have to take out a second mortgage for...

642 was produced 1990-1992 with a 3" barrel, product code 104798, but that may be a difficult gun to find. Modifying your current gun may be easier.

Indeed, some guns were never offered with 3" barrels............but the owners wanted it to be a 3" so badly, they had it converted.....

1917 Lend Lease version that has been customized.

    Wink

My 3 inch 547; I agree that the 3 inch balances and shoots phenomenal. I don't shoot this one, but I have shot it once. It put a big happy smile on my Name: 20190821_203426.jpg
