    Serial number is 78588 on the cylinder. Anyway to find out the manufactured date?

    Oh sorry. I spun the cylinder while holding the rod like StrawHat said to do.

    This means the rod unscrewed while shooting or dry firing and needs to be corrected or it will continue to happen.

    The thread is right handed until ~1959 on the K and N frame only.

    I frames have left handed thread beginning right after WWII. And J frames began life with LH threads in 1950.

    Your gun is from 1950-1951. It became the Model 24 in 1957.
