    SD40 VE Chambering Issue

I purchased a Smith & Wesson SD40 VE. I went to the range and the first 14 rounds fed with no problems. When I inserted the new magazine the bullets would not chamber properly and would not align in the cylinder causing the chamber door to not close. I was using Aguila 40 S&W 180 grain. The guy at the range said I should not use the 180gr and instead use the 165gr. He disassembled the pistol and reassembled it and the rounds began to chamber properly but still suggested i go to a lighter load. Is this an issue with the S&W SD40 VE or was it the round itself? If it is the round, what do you suggest. I have used Aguila bullets in my Rugers with no problems.

You could have got some out of spec ammo. Did make sure to try it again after reassembly with both magazines, because I am wondering if 1 mag is defective

I tried both magazines while I was still on the lane. I have emailed S&W but I have not gotten a reply. I have located 165gr rounds but I want to make certain that is the issue before I purchase.

Any standard weight, in spec ammo should work, unless its the chamber that's out of spec.
With the barrel out of the gun, tip it up and drop one of those 180gr bullets down the tube. Observe how it fits in the chamber. The rim of the round should be slightly inset from the barrel hood. If it sticks out even a tiny bit beyond the barrel hood it will prevent the slide from going into battery. A few years ago I bought some Tule brass ammo in a round plastic 100rd container. Shot it all down to the last magazine in my Ruger SR9c with no problem. on the last mag, I fired a couple then nothing. I looked and the gun was not in battery and I couldn't push it into battery. ejected the round, fired the rest. Once Home, I measured it and the brass was too long on that 1 round

Welcome aboard. I've learned over the years that Aguila ammo can be erratic at best. Like any other cheap ammo, you get what you pay for.
