    Call S&W customer service and give them the serial number. They will tell you the date of manufacturer in under two minutes. At least they did for me.

    We need some pictures to see what you have. There are some X prefixes out there . They were Experimental Guns that Smith made, that made it out side the plant but have never heard of any J Frames.
