S&W 39-2 manufacture date and value

Hello y'all, I am new here. Actually, I'm new to this whole world wide web thing all together. I live in a rural part of Florida and don't have any way to check a serial number around here. So my son has made me an account and set me up with an email, as well as took some digital photographs. He just left, so[ now I am here on my own trying to navigate this thing, and let me tell you it's not easy! It took me thirty minutes just to get to this part. Any way I have a 9mm Model 39-2 that I've had for about 35 years now,(at least I think I have) and I am just curious about the age of the gun. Besides my Colt Python, Colt Woodsman, and S&W combat, I am a rifle and shotgun man. I have never really had a need for a handgun. I am planning on giving this 39-2 to my granddaughter next year when she turns 21, and I want her to know a little more about it. I still have the box and manual, but I can't seem to find a date in the book. The serial number is A162631. If anyone out there can throw an old dog a bone It would be much appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

"Yessir, the check is in the mail." Ol' Jack Burton

S&W 39-2 manufacture date and value

That is a fine example and within a year or two of mine, for which I paid $325 for a year ago.

Just saw one at a dealer that usually has decent prices and he was asking $399.00. Two went for $350 to $400.00 at the last gun auction I went to. The 39 is a nice pistol and should serve your granddaughter well.
