    Hello from WNY

Good afternoon. New to this forum and have recently started on my S&W part of my collection.

Fortunate to have found a good deal on these 2 that were at a LGS on consignment.

    Model 28-2 and a Model 10.

I sent away for a letter on the 28-2 and will for the 10 as well. Can anyone tell me a year on the Model 10 based on SN? 861XXX

    Thanks,

    Jerry

    to the forum.

If it is a Model 28 it is after 1958/59.

I'm guessing the serial number is to the snubby. If so it is around a late 1941, early 1942 M&P .38. The barrel may be cut down with a new sight as there is no barrel lug

    Welcome from Arkansas!

The 28 is a great shooter and is the same internally as the S&W's top of the line model 27 and those are Herrett's Shooting Star grips on it. Not factory original but very good grips...got a pair nyself. Good start.

Thanks and you are correct on the grips, I wasn't sure what they were when I got it and had to take them off and do some research . They do look and feel great.

Thanks - yes the SN was to the Model 10. I think you are right on the barrel, have to research the lineage on it and see what length it started it's life as.
